As for Nintendo DS, it had remained flat year-on-year until the summer, and has been performing well since. In addition to "Dragon Quest 9", the availability of various titles like "Tomodachi Collection" and "Pokémon Heart Gold/ Soul Silver", whose target audiences do not overlap, can be cited as the reason for this positive performance.

This chart shows weekly sales of Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 in the U.S., based on NPD data from January to September for 2008 and 2009. Wii, especially after April, shows a steep year-on-year decline this year.
In September, all three hardware platforms cut their prices. PS3, whose data contains five weeks worth of sales with the reduced price, surpassed that of the Wii, whose result contains only one week of price cut.
As NPD reports are published monthly, we do not yet have October data. Wii sales will most likely grow from September, but unfortunately has not reached last year’s result yet. As this year’s holiday season is said to be coming later than last year, the key point is how we maximize opportunities during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This shows a year-on-year comparison of monthly sales figures of Nintendo DS and PSP. Lines in deep colors indicate this year and light colors represents last year. Nintendo DS has been posting and maintaining better results year-on-year.
Nintendo DS in the U.S. is maintaining a healthy momentum, as actual expansion of gaming population by Nintendo DS took place later than other territories, and the U.S. market has the tendency to change tide slowly.

This is the sales of home consoles in European market.
After the effect of PS3’s price cut started to fade, Wii reduced the price. Thanks to its impact, Wii is now back to the No.1 spot. Market momentum caused by seasonality seems to be taking place later this year, and we have not yet reached last year’s result.

This chart shows transition of handheld sales in Europe.
Europe enjoyed a great summer sales season last year, as identified in light pink line here in this graph, but underperformed this year. Since the launch of Nintendo DSi in April, it surpassed last year’s results until around May. But the summer sales season after that lowered and the result is as I mentioned.

Regarding the future sales of Wii, as I explained at the Fiscal Announcement in July, it is important to see if the much anticipated "Wii Sports Resort" and "Wii Fit Plus" have been proceeding as we expected in the market.

First, let’s look at "Wii Sports Resort".

This chart shows sales transition of the Japanese, American and European markets. As of the end of September, we have shipped 6.97 million copies worldwide as of the end of Setember, and lifetime sell-through has already passed 5 million copies in these markets alone. It is a good start for a title we anticipate to sell more than ten million copies.
But you may be feeling that something is missing, as you have seen hit titles like "Mario Kart Wii" and "Wii Fit", which kept selling even after the ten million mark.

In fact, when comparing it to the original "Wii Fit", which was released in December 2007 in Japan and in Spring 2008 in U.S. and Europe…

This is the transition of the original "Wii Fit" since the launch and it might appear that sales of "Wii Sports Resort" pale in comparison. So I would like to compare them in the same time period.
