This chart illustrates the weekly sales transition of each home video game console in Japan since the beginning of this year.
In March and April, home console video games sales are slowing down a bit in general.

This chart compares the weekly sales of three home console video game hardware in the U.S., based upon the monthly NPD reports.
The January Wii sell-thru data cannot be a good point for fair analysis as Wii was facing the serious supply shortages then. Contrary to the Japanese situation, Wii sales were accelerated in March.

The same trend can be seen in Europe.
I heard that other companies are marking down their product or offering free software bundles, but it looks like Wii sales have not been affected.
For your information, Super Smash Bros, Brawl has yet to hit Europe. In other words, this is the trend realized in Europe even without such a big title like Smash Brothers.
When a hardware can sell in such a record speed, we can conclude that it is because it is supported by new customers. Seeing is believing, so take a look.

As you can see, a wide variety of people who are obviously not used to playing video games are now enjoying Wii in ways different from how video games have traditionally been played.
In the U.S., Wii has been played at house parties, and is enjoyed not just by the players, but also by those who are watching them play. In the Netherlands and in Germany, those who probably have not played before are enjoying themselves.
UK media reports on senior citizens playing with video games as a social phenomena. How people use Wii in a brand new way for their workout has been picked up. People playing Wii in front of a huge monitor in cruise ships. I was really surprised by this picture. A senior lady is playing with Guitar Hero Wii game. A number of people are playing with Wii Bowling of Wii Sports. We are delighted to see the happy smiling faces of so many different people and are encouraged with the notion that video game can actually be played by great many people.

Although this software was launched in the current fiscal year, the new Mario Kart game that can be played with the unique wheel-shaped controller was launched in Japan on April 10 and marked a good start with approximately 800,000 units sold within two weeks of launch.
In overseas markets, the game was launched on April 11 in Europe. In the U.S. it will launch on April 27. The initial European sales have shown even stronger sales than in Japan by topping 1 million sales in just two weeks from its launch. In the U.S., the pre-sell is reportedly strong, so we are anticipating a good start too.

We launched Wii Fit in December 2007 with the theme of "Family Health" and the cumulative Japanese sales by now topped 1.9million units. Even though more than 4 months have passed since the launch, it has been encouraging new customers to purchase this software together with the Wii hardware. This product with an unprecedented theme will finally be launched in the overseas markets during this fiscal year.
Wii Fit is going to be launched in Europe on April 25, or today. In the U.S., it will be May 19. Even though the unit price is higher compared with other software, it is said that it is attracting more pre-sell than Mario Kart. Now that the good Japanese sales of Wii Fit has been reported in overseas markets, I have heard that a number of retailers abroad are looking forward to the arrival of Wii Fit.

The fiscal year that just ended also saw the highest number of million-seller software titles.

When we list up Nintendo's first party titles whose shipments within one fiscal year topped 1 million, there were 15 titles as shown in this list. When we see the life-to-date shipment numbers, the million-seller titles increase to 29.
The fact that not a few titles are sold exceeding the 10 million unit and that some titles are selling over one million units in consecutive years are proof that DS is the hardware platform which significant sales can be expected for a long time period.

When we look at Wii software, 12 titles topped 1 million unit sales within the subject fiscal year.
For your information, Wii Sports which tops the list has been bundled with the Wii hardware in overseas markets. The list should give out the impression that Wii software has been selling well in the hardware's second year.
On the other hand, many in the industry sometimes point out a concern, and that is...

It appears that third parties' software has not been enjoying good sales the way the first party titles sell.
I understand that such a feeling is especially strong in Japan.
